Word Cloud Chart
Word Cloud Chart is a visualization method that allows you to quickly see which words appear more frequently in a bunch of text.
In a Word Cloud Chart, the weight of each word will be proportional to its frequency. You can also assign other metrics to determine the size of the word. For example, in a Word Cloud consisting of product names, the sales value of each product can be assigned to determine the word size.
Creating a Word Cloud Chart
Follow the below steps to create a Word Cloud Chart.
- Open the chart editor.
- Drop the text column in X-axis or Y-axis.
- Click the Click Here to Generate Graph button. A default chart (line or bar, typically) gets created.
- Change the chart type to Word Cloud. A chart will be created. By default, the size of each word will be proportional to its frequency.
- You can also assign other metrics as the size of the word by adding the corresponding column in the Size field. For example, the sales of each product can be assigned to determine its size.
- You can use the Color field to categorize words.
The following video illustrates how to create a Word Cloud Chart.
Possible combinations for creating Word Cloud Charts
The following combinations of column types are possible when creating Word Cloud Charts.
X axis | Y axis | Color | Text | Size | Tooltip | |
Case 1 | Dimension | Aggregate/ Dimension | Aggregate/ Dimension/ Measure/ Optional | Aggregate/ Dimension/ Measure/ Optional | Aggregate | Aggregate/ |
Case 2 | Aggregate | Aggregate/ Dimension | Aggregate/ Dimension/ Measure/ Optional | Aggregate/ | Aggregate | Aggregate/ |
Case 3 | Dimension | Optional | Aggregate | Aggregate/ | Aggregate | Aggregate/ |
Case 4 | Aggregate | Optional | Dimension | Aggregate/ | Aggregate | Aggregate/ |
Case 5 | Optional | Dimension | Aggregate | Aggregate/ | Aggregate | Aggregate/ |
Case 6 | Optional | Aggregate | Dimension | Aggregate/ | Aggregate | Aggregate/ |
- Dimension: A column with Actual value function applied over it. For numeric columns, the Actual value will be divided into Actual Measure, Actual Dimension, and Actual Range, from which you can choose the appropriate function.
- Aggregate: A column with an aggregate function (sum, average, count, etc) applied over it. This also includes the aggregate formula columns.
