Racing charts
Racing charts are animated visualizations that are best suited for visualizing the changes in the data over a period of time. They highlight and help comprehend the fluctuations and progression in the data. These types of charts grab the user's attention instantly, providing an immersive experience and helping craft an immersive story about the data.
Types of racing charts
- Racing bar chart: In a racing bar chart, the bars move horizontally, showing the changes in length based on the dimension at the start. As the animations progress, the positions of the bars shift according to the relative size of the data.
- Racing line chart:In a racing line chart, each line represents a specific category or entity, and these lines move or progress over time, creating a visually compelling race.
Data requirements
A minimum of one dimensional column and one measure column is required to generate a racing chart.
Creating racing charts
- Access the table for which you want to create a chart.
- Click the Create icon on the side navigation panel and choose New Chart View from the drop-down menu.
- In the chart editor, add the columns as given below:
- X-axis: Add a dimensional column like time period for a racing line chart or a categorical column for a bar chart.
- Y-axis: Add a metric or a measure column.
- Click Generate Graph.
- Change the chart type to a racing line or bar chart.
- In the View Mode, click the play button to view the animated chart.
