6 Easy Steps to Forming Your LLC
Choose your
Business Type & State of Incorporation
With Zoho Start, we can help with setting up your LLC. You simply have to decide in which state you want to setup your LLC.
Choose a Name for Your LLC
This is the big decision. Do you have a name for your business?
The name for your business should be distinct from other company names in the state. We recommend choosing 2 to 3 alternative names for your business, just in case your first choice is not available. If you intend to obtain a trademark of your business name, a search with the United States Patent and Trademark Office should help to check the availability.
Ownership Information
As you setup the company, you will have to provide information about the owners (also called members) of the business. A business can have a single owner or multiple owners. You will have to provide information about each of the owners and their percentage of ownership.
Appoint a Registered Agent
A Registered Agent is an individual or entity who is physically located in your company's state of incorporation, and consents to accept service of process (and other important communications) on behalf of your company. A registered agent is required, and some states (like Texas and California) do not allow an LLC to act as its own registered agent. You can act as your own registered agent, but if you do, your address will be made public, and you cannot use a P.O. Box.
Obtain an EIN
Every business needs to file taxes. To do that, you will need an Employer Identification Number (EIN), which is obtained from the IRS. An EIN is also needed to open a bank account, obtain loans and financing, and pay employees. You can obtain the EIN yourself for your business, or Zoho Start can help you obtain an EIN for you for free if you incorporate your business with us.
Verification and Filing
Once the required information is received from you, we will submit this information to the state, on your behalf, to incorporate your business. The state will review and verify your information during the incorporation process. If additional details are requested by the state, we will reach out to you to obtain necessary information to pass it back to the state.
Upon successful incorporation, we will share the incorporation documents with you.
