Hybrid training: Getting the best of both worlds

Online training, as we all know, has now become the go-to option for trainers to run successful and scalable training programs. This digital native method has two major forms of delivery: live virtual and on-demand. While the live virtual mode helps in training hundreds of remote participants concurrently, the latter offers the convenience of self-paced learning. By and large, most trainers manage their learner engagement using these two formats, despite the different challenges they present.

However, training methods involving elements of both pre-recorded content and real-time engagement are largely overlooked. With decreasing attention span and increasing demand from modern learners, instructors need to identify innovative means to strike the right chord. This is where hybrid training comes into play.

Hybrid training methods combine live training with automated content delivery, which allows the instructor to focus on learner interaction. In other words, hybrid training offers the best of both live virtual and on-demand sessions.

Automating product demos

Online product trainings to customers and leads hosted by sales and marketing teams more often than not involve a live demo. Although product experts can present feature highlights and walk participants through the demo, it becomes tedious when these sessions are frequent and recurring. This leaves the expert with less time for answering questions and understanding specific customer needs. By adopting the hybrid training method, teams can broadcast pre-recorded demos to their customers. Once the customers better understand the product, the sales and marketing teams can engage in meaningful interactions that help convert more leads.

Bringing in domain experts

Training companies often invite outside subject experts to teach advanced online courses when necessary. The objective of inviting guest faculty is to ensure that students have the most expert training on the subject. Often due to tight schedules, the facilitator has to leave enough room for student Q&A and not devote their limited time with the domain expert projecting presentation content alone. Using hybrid training, if the same presentation is uploaded ahead of time as a course video, students can view and study the video and simultaneously raise questions to the guest faculty. This maximizes their learning.

Offering immersive learning

The downside of publishing e-learning courses for on-demand consumption is the disconnect between the trainer and the learner. Thorough learning is difficult to achieve without a trainer to instantly clarify topical questions and lead discussions. Within the scope of hybrid training, the trainer can provide on-demand materials as well as play the more active role of facilitator, thus offering an immersive learning experience.

As a continuing effort to make your online training career smooth and successful, we've now introduced the hybrid training capability in Zoho ShowTime.
